ATTN: Massachusetts artists, call for public media art
December 6, 2011
The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority and Boston Cyberarts is issuing a call for media art for display on the new Marquee outside the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. This 80-foot-tall Marquee offers more than 3,000 square feet of display area on 7 screens, providing full-motion video. We are looking for ten 30-second videos, animations or computer generated work, using the entire Marquee in colorful and creative ways. The Marquee is viewed by more than 100,000 pedestrians and motorists from 7am to 10pm daily. The Marquee is visible for half a mile in many directions, and is seen by traffic on Summer, D, and Congress Streets as well as from the surrounding hotels, office buildings and the Seaport World Trade Center.
Who CanĀ Apply
Eligibility is limited to artists and artist teams who reside in Massachusetts. Artists will need to create content in an After Effects template, which we will provide. There are many features of the marquee to take advantage of, so please familiarize yourself with the technical specifications clearly outlined in the Content Creation Guidelines (available here: http://www.bostoncyberarts.org/bca_portal_projects_bcec.php) before submitting your proposal. It is recommended that artists submitting visit the site to grasp the full potential of the Marquee.
Selection Process
Boston Cyberarts and MCCA administration will review applications and award up to ten exhibition opportunities for the BCEC Marquee. Notifications will be sent by January 7 and works should be completed by February 1, 2012 for presentation in early February. Awards include a $500 honorarium. Selection of work is based foremost upon artistic excellence. We are particularly interested in works that push the limits of the 7 screens as a display platform while also creating dynamic engaging content for the public. Artists will receive proper credit for their media art. All work accepted becomes the sole property of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, who retains the right to play or not to play any work.
